Bells of Ireland
Bells of Ireland
Moluccella laevis, also known as Bells of Ireland, has a unique ‘citrusy-mint’ scent. It is a cool season annual that produces tall flower spikes with delicate white blooms, encapsulated in green "bells". These stunning flowers are sure to add a touch of elegance to any garden or bouquet, making it a popular choice among gardeners and floral designers alike.
An ancient Celtic legend of a fairy king Lir, had three children. His first wife had died giving birth. The stepmother was jealous of the kind treatment the king gave his children. She turned the children into swans and they sang swan songs for 900 years. When the king found out about the curse, he banished his second wife to the same fate. The spell could only be broken by the sound of bells. Christian legend has it that the spell was broken when bells rang out at the arrival of St. Patrick to Ireland.
