Preserving the Legacy

We are a narrative-based seed company based in Minnesota; we specialize in preserving the Church’s floral tradition of cultivating monastic Mary Gardens. Rooted in the heritage of the Middle Ages, we seek to pick up where history left off, rediscovering the beauty and liturgical symbolism of Her gardens that had shaped cultures and enriched homes, churches, and monasteries.

Guided by St. Francis’ call to “rebuild My Church,” our mission is to honor our Creator through stewardship of nature, providing the next generation with learning and education through an active exploration of our faith and creation.

Sower of Stories and Seeds

Kelly graduated from North Dakota State University in Agronomy. Soon after getting married, she was called to educate their three children at home for 20 years.

During that time of learning with her children, she began questioning the notion of the ‘Dark Ages.’ Intrigued by this shadowed time of the Middle Ages in Europe, she stumbled upon
the forgotten art of Mary Gardens that was passed down from generations of the ‘unlettered’ people and monks of Catholic Christendom.

In true homeschool style, she began seeking out-of-print books on Marian floral traditions.

She now combines her passion of her Catholic faith, all things plants and soil, along
with hand painting each unique packet cover with the legends and lore. All products are
uniquely focused on preserving and celebrating our rich Christian history through Marian gardens. Kelly’s hope is to strengthen Faith formation with beauty and ecology to a new dawn of culture through Our Blessed Mother.

What is Mary's Garden?

‘Mary Garden’ is a garden that has specific plants that have been dedicated to Mary, Christ, the Church, and the Saints.

What is its purpose? To remind us of our Catholic tradition that has been passed down through the ages by being immersed through physical and spiritual practices.  The garden acts as a spiritual aid or living illustration to help us grow closer to God through his first word, creation.

Like any garden, whether a flower, vegetable, pollinator, healing, or themed garden, a ‘Mary Garden’ is planted with a purpose. It can be a combination of any or all these elements, including statues of Our Lady of the Saints.

It is planned with the purpose of helping us grow in faith, feeling a connection to the Creator through His creation, and even to share or express our faith with others.

A key component of a ‘Mary Garden’ are plants referred to by our forefathers and mothers as her ‘signatures’ that have a floral tradition, legend, or lore connected with the Faith.

We tried to adhere as close as possible to the oral traditions that were preserved by the monks of medieval times. A modern ‘Mary Garden’ allows us to garden in the shadow of many of our religious brothers and sisters who came before us as they pass on their expression of ‘the Faith’ to us today.
